How is your business helping to solve the health, social, or economic challenges created by COVID19?
Ignis promote Life Skills and English skills among students at the bottom of the social pyramid. Our students come from families that earn less than $6 dollars a day, and in India it also means lower social stature and the discrimination that comes with it. Access to meaningful education and employment improves their opportunity to overcome these challenges. The immediate outcome of the life skills learning is that it improve ones ability to make informed decisions and to negotiate with superstitions. These are the biggest challenges when it comes to health in India, making them extremely vulnerabale. Advocacy skills and critical thinking would make our students capable of negotiating with larger community, to influence others in case of COVID like situations. India faces even worse threats from avoidable diseases like diarrhea, and communicable diseases like TB. Our programs deal with their awareness of general health, communicable diseases and instill critical thinking regarding superstitions. We promote English skills that give them access to information, improve their chances of higher education and give them access employment, helping them out of poverty. Poverty is the worst disease in itself.

With 8 years of intervention, this village government school has doubled its enrollment from 170 to 360 students. The village has now achieved 90% enrollment in higher education. As more students are enrolling in higher education, early marriages have come down zero. The school has also achieved gender parity. We hope to see more of our students being employed, leading to the financial well being of the village. The core of Ignis is its research team.
