About
Karma Healthcare is an impact first start-up with a mission to provide equitable primary care to those who are left behind. Karma’s physical nurse-led e-Doctor Clinics provide affordable, accessible and quality healthcare using a mix of technology and on-ground interventions. Our contactless clinical experience provides remote consultation, in addition to outreach and awareness through screening, community meetings and camps. With access to better healthcare, patients experience basic improvement in their and their families’ wellbeing. Over the last 5 years, Karma has also built its own proprietary technology system that has been tested and scaled. It is currently live across 100 deployments in India and Australia and has served more than 6.4 million people. Our platform is supported by some of the world’s leading international organisations such as the UBS Optimum Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada, the Government of Australia, etc. The technology is ready for deployment across other developing markets as well, with minimal customisation for local context.

How is your business helping to solve the health, social, or economic challenges created by COVID19?
The Covid-19 pandemic has made access to quality healthcare harder than it already was for those living in rural India. Karma’s nurse-assisted tele-health model allows those who are unable to see a doctor because of the pandemic to access expert medical care through a contactless service. We have extended our technology platform to hospitals, NGO partners, individual doctors, and others so that they can in turn provide essential health services to Covid-affected communities. Our system also provides counseling support to address panic, misinformation, and lack of information about the pandemic. Our remote symptom screening alerts patients with potential Covid-19, who can be referred to the right healthcare facilities to avoid delays in diagnosis, treatment and necessary quarantine measures. We have also built capabilities to provide contactless delivery of medicines within the reach of our existing 25-clinic network. Our teams have distributed free masks, sanitizers, free ration and other essentials in the communities where we workDuring the pandemic we have done over 2000 contactless consultations on our updated technology system and we provided tele-counseling services to over 6000 households. We expect to serve about 100 individuals daily through our 24 hours helpline. With further funding support, we can ramp up our capacity by 3x and serve ~300 individuals everyday, reaching a total ~54,000 beneficiaries in a span of 6-months.
