How is your business helping to solve the health, social, or economic challenges created by COVID19?
Our business was created to find an affordable solution for the prevention of most all Vector Borne Diseases. We believe that there are technological solutions to disease prevention that don't require expensive and lengthy approval through agencies like the FDA and that can be effective and not require reapplication of toxic chemical agents in order to be effective. According to U.S. CDC statistics there are approximately 3 billion people in the world who are at risk for Dengue Fever and around 200 million people who contract Malaria each year. In the U.S. there are around 350,000 reported new cases of Lyme Disease, which is believed to be only a fraction of the actual number of cases as well as many cases of West Nile Virus infections with many new and emerging Vector Borne Disease threats, looming on the horizon. We are currently patenting our PPE with the USPTO and are looking for ways in which to adapt our technology to prevent air borne transmission of viruses like the COVID-19. I am a Medical Technologist/Microbiologist with over twenty-five years of experience in the Laboratory and am looking forward to meeting the challenges with which we are currently being presented and hope to be able to help stop this and other preventable diseases.
Does your business contribute most to recovery, response, or resilience?
Resilience - we're improving the broader infrastructure for responding to pandemic outbreaks.
What is the stage of your product development?
I have a prototype or a simple version I can show my customers
What strengths does your team bring? Include skills and personal experience with the problem.
I have over twenty-five years of personal experience as a Medical Technologist/Microbiologist with direct experience with Virology, Bacteriology, Mycology and Serology. I am currently employed, part-time, at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center Microbiology Department, where we are currently testing patients for COVID-19. My wife and business partner is a Registered Nurse who works at Waldo County General Hospital in the Women and Infants Center where she has over 20 years of nursing experience. I believe that I could enlist the help of at least some of the other Microbiologists at the Lab who have more experience in Molecular Testing Technologies and other areas of Microbiology than I have. I think that we are all eager to find a solution to the current COVID-19 Pandemic.
