How is your business helping to solve the health, social, or economic challenges created by COVID19?
Over the last 10 years, Tamul has focussed on creating all jobs in its entire value chain, locally. The women and youth working with Tamul travel a maximum distance of 1-2 km for work and the rural entrepreneurs work in their own home production units. In the current scenario, local sustainable job creation has become very important. Thus, even in the lockdown, Tamul ensured that the arecanut sheaths could be collected and stocked in the arecanut sheath collector’s home, rural micro-entrepreneurs could continue their home-based production. Also, post the completion of Lockdown 1.0, Tamul could reopen its centralised production unit, after following all the regulations of the MHA guidelines. Through this process, Tamul not only ensured that no jobs were lost, but more sustainable livelihoods were created, as villagers found arecanut sheath collection and supply as the only source of income available during this period.
